Is Mod Engine safe?
Two different questions hide inside “is it safe?”, so let's answer both.
Is Mod Engine safe for my PC?
Yes — Mod Engine is entirely safe. It has been used by hundreds of thousands of players, and our Discord community is 95,000 members and growing. The project is directly supported by our Pro members, which means we have no need to engage in the shady behavior that plagues parts of this space — bundled offers, adware, sketchy monetization. Doing any of that would only ruin a reputation we worked very hard to build, and delivering the best and safest modding tool available is the entire point.
Mod Engine ships as a signed Windows application, and the only official download source is modengine.app. Never download it from mirror sites or video descriptions — repacked copies of popular modding tools are a common malware vehicle, and anything not signed and served from the official domain is not ours.
Some antivirus products still flag memory-modification tools generically. This is a known pattern for the whole category — trainers, Cheat Engine, and mod tools all read and write game memory, which is exactly what heuristic scanners are trained to be suspicious of. A generic heuristic detection on an official, signed build is a false positive; a detection on a copy from a random mirror should be treated as real.
Is Mod Engine safe for my game accounts?
Mod Engine is built for single-player, offline games only. It is not a multiplayer cheat and does not support online or competitive titles. Modding the games you play solo — making them harder, easier, or just different — affects nobody else's experience, which is the line this entire community is built on.
What data does the app need?
The app needs process access to the game you choose — that's the whole mechanism, the same one used by every trainer since the '90s. Nothing about your usage is required beyond running the app and picking a game.
Frequently asked
- Why does my antivirus flag Mod Engine?
- Heuristic scanners flag memory-modification tools as a category. On an official signed build from modengine.app this is a false positive; add an exception. On a copy from anywhere else, don't take the risk.
- Can I get banned for using Mod Engine?
- Mod Engine only supports offline, single-player games, where there is no anti-cheat to trip and no other players affected. It does not work with online or multiplayer titles.
- Where is the only official download?
- https://modengine.app — nowhere else.
