How to use Mod Engine?

Mod Engine is a free PC game modding app for single-player Windows games. It works like a universal trainer: you pick a game from the library, attach to the running game process, and switch individual mods on or off in real time. Watch the short video, or follow the steps below.

How do I install and run my first mod?

1. Download Mod Engine. Get the installer from the official site, modengine.app. That is the only official download source — see Is Mod Engine safe? for why that matters.
2. Open the app and search for your game. Type the game's name in the search bar and select the available mods. Mod Engine lists mods per game and per game version, so pick the entry that matches the version you have installed.
3. Launch the game, then select the game process. Start the game normally, switch to Mod Engine, and select the game's process from the process picker. Mods cannot activate until the process is attached — this is the step most new users miss.
4. Activate mods. Press each option's hotkey while playing — every mod is free to use with hotkeys. Pro members can also click the interactive controls directly in the app. Some mod packs have a parent mod (usually the first entry) that must be enabled before the options below it will work.

Why is the order of steps important?

Mod Engine modifies the game's memory while it runs, the same way classic trainers and Cheat Engine tables do. That's why the game has to be running and the process attached before you toggle anything. If you toggle first and attach later, nothing happens.

What if a mod still doesn't work?
